A musical act combining the uplifting sounds of the Tides of Welcome Community Choir and their collage of personalities and voices, with the raw energy that comes from layered rhythms as performed by The David Robertson Drummers using the Djembe (African hand drum)… a remarkable synergy that captivates audiences with each performance.
At the midpoint of the Mountain to Mouth 2016, dancers will emerge from the darkness at Steampacket Gardens, as Canoe and its entourage of flag bearers and walkers arrive from their journey from the You Yangs. Weaving like threads through the central artwork, the dancers, made up of groups from across Geelong, gather the people of the city together. It's time to get up and dance.
Alchemy 7 is a dynamic collaboration of artists seeking to create innovative and imaginative installations using diverse elements. Individual artists respond to the environment, space and time.
The artists involved in this installation - Cosmic Retort - are Michael Gray, Amanda Hills and Rebecca Morton. Amanda has collaborated with Michael Gray to create an beautiful, towering dress woven out of fine copper wire. Rebecca will ascend the dress and sing beautiful operatic arias. Inspired by the blue, alien Diva from the film "5th Element" and by the masked spectacle of the Venice Carnevale, this work aims to transport you to from the ordinary to the strange and extraordinary.
Coastal art rockers - Victoriana Gaye will again be playing at Geelong After Dark, hot on the heels of their 4th CD release “Red Moon Ray”.

The Robertson family from Ocean Grove have been fondly labelled "The Von Robertsons" by locals. The musical family include parents, singer/songwriter, Andrea, drummer/percussionist, David, and their children, Heath and Carly, who are both talented musicians in their own right. Andrea & David are regulars on the local music scene and are also known for sharing their love of music with children (both young and the young at heart).
This family band will quickly capture your attention and get you tapping along.

Aïr-thereal is a unique acoustic infusion drifting on airwaves and weaving this world to another. Resonating with Middle Eastern, Asian and Celtic influences and set amongst a luminous installation, the artists, Lisa Singline, Sandy Dickinson and Stephen Oakes, play an instrumental accompaniment including Handpan drum, harmonium, guitar, vocals and percussion.
Audiences will love On The Air, a whacky murder mystery radio serial, written and produced by five talented Geelong writers and performed by brilliant artists, performed in the style of 1940’s pre-TV entertainment in three episodes.
Harpist, Christine Middleton, will play her own composition "She Moved Through The Air" accompanied by a series of moving images. Gentle ethereal vibrational air sounds move through the strings of the stationary harp, pre recorded at dawn on a deserted beach on the Bellarine Peninsula. A powerful relaxation sound journey...
Sarah Carroll, singer, guitarist and Ukulele Queen Of The Bellarine and her son George Wilson (TINY GIANTS, The Left Wing) will perform Airs, a heartfelt celebration of breath in song at Waterfront Kitchen. Harmony that's only possible between family.
For over 25 years, a locked wooden dresser sat in the family garage of broadcaster, Joel Carnegie - a once prized possession of his grandfather, Col Brain. Col was one of Geelong's most well-regarded musicians of his time - playing in and leading dance, swing, brass and jazz bands. But Col's dresser hadn’t been opened since he died. So what was inside?
Told through the eyes of his grandson, in a collaboration with the Geelong West Brass Band: herein lies the discovery of a time capsule of Australian musical life, in a quest to uncover what Col wanted us to know about his life, by the things he left behind...
This radio cabaret project will be recorded for broadcast on ABC Radio National.

After a sellout season in Geelong, 2015, HOMAGE TO THE MASTERPIECE celebrates two great artists Johannes Vermeer and Frieda Kahlo. Merging theatre, movement and narrative this intimate production allows an artistic immersion into the inspiration and private moments of the artists’ lives: Frida Kahlo and Johannes Vermeer.

“Air” is an experimental installation by Melbourne artist Eben Greaves. It consists of large floating spheres, which navigate around the space with the aid of the audience. This represents the movement of air particles around our own bodies as we move.

Customs lawn will be transformed into a projection light playground that kids can run, jump and play on the projected moving images. The images will consist of moving shapes, bubbles, stairs that disappear, mazes and lots more.
Isobelle Carmody, author of the Obernewtyn Chronicles will be launching an exhibition of masks created by children’s illustrators and artists. The masks will be auctioned online with the proceeds going to charity. There will be a competition for the best mask on the night, so either come with your mask or arrive early to decorate a wild and wonderful mask to wear to the launch.
A special guest will be ‘unmasked’ as part of the launch event.
Dance the night away, with pop up tango performances and workshops and keep your eyes peeled for a symphonic flash mob that could happen at any time...
Back to Back Theatre’s THE DEMOCRATIC SET is a residency model for creating short films and performances, to explore the belief that all people are, in principle, equal and should enjoy social, political and economic rights and opportunities. THE DEMOCRATIC SET uses a custom-made film set, a neutral room with two opposing doors.
The exterior steps leading to the Geelong Gallery from Johnstone Park will be transformed into a gorgeous rainbow of colour. Visit us to capture your brightest selfie and hashtag #loveisintheair #geelongafterdark to show your support for Geelong's LGBTIQ community.
'Jump Light' is an interactive piece by Ainslie Macaulay. All visitors of Geelong After Dark are warmly invited to engage with the 9 metre long illuminated skipping rope- an old day game in a more contemporary light.

Have you 30 seconds to talk about blood? A story containing sex? A knowing of tears? Receive instructions, then privately record your voice.
Brand Me Baby explores the commodification of digital intimacy and how this is redefining intimacy’s value via performative interventions. The duo roam around dressed in skin-toned body suits, enticing viewers to ‘brand’ their bodies with badges of pixelated logos.

The magic of a windchime made of upcycled materials, household items, jewellery, tin cans, bottles, cutlery, garden tools, pots and pans will transform Little Malop Street central.
This piece will create the musical sounds of an active, busy and bustling community.
Telematic Café opens up for the night providing sites to experience and produce new worlds. Test media and medium at venue 1 – explore stereoscopic (3D) film and collaboration on radio waves. Immerse in new realities at venue 2 – constructed artificial environments and space for communication with an artificially intelligent human. Various artists include: Japanese artist GOSHIMA Kazuhiro with his beautiful 3D film 'Shadowland'.

The Carousel is proud to be a part of Geelong After Dark. Open from 6pm – 8.30pm on this special evening, come and experience a twilight Carousel ride! The Carousel will also light up in yellow to raise awareness for Road Trauma Support Services and support ‘Shine A Light’ on Road Safety.

Fantastical things happen at the National Wool Museum when the sun goes down and the lights dim. Classic silent films and prowls by amber light with Gertie the Dinosaur, The Ghost of Slumber Mountain and creatures of the dead zoo lurking nearby.
Michael Morgan "Symbiotic Illusions" - surreal and beautiful worlds constructed within a group of fish tanks (some water-filled) that will feature different elements, lights, air bubbles, ice sculpture, and dry ice vapour.

Movements & Creation is an installation performance piece that combines earth and air, chalk and breath, music and drawing. Flautist Brighid Mantelli will perform original compositions that will be amplified and looped whilst candle flame and chalk artist Danielle McCarthy will attempt to capture the shadows cast by performers...
A bloom of illuminated jellyfish against a night sky, floating through Central Geelong, transporting you to the deep blue and the life aquatic. These creatures of luminous beauty will be gliding along Moorabool Street and the waterfront changing colour as they encounter each other and the world around them.

KUBU Studio presents a pop up hypnotic video installation created by local artist Courtney Ward, aka Wallflower. The piece explores the entrancing ability of the element Air and how it connects all living things. Wallflower will also be live painting in response to the video on the evening. -- ‘Dame Nature’s breath mirrors the ebb and flow, the high and low, the rise and fall of every chest.’
An inter-dimensional sculptural rift consisting predominately of air radiates energy as though it were alive. It's kinetic skeleton frames space with light, shadow and colour, questioning our interpretations of reality with a sense of wonder.
CHYA Laneway Jam promises to be a jam-packed night. Complete with a festival-vibe down a cosy laneway setting, audiences can expect live music and mural painting, hot donuts and coffee and can enjoy a contemporary art exhibition in the gallery space. Relax on the astro turf, grab a picnic rug or throw and settle in for a very chilled night of jamming.
This multi-media installation explores the idea of lifelessness; as both a state of mind and a way of escape. Sheer and penetrable walls confine the ‘self’ and act as a fragile barrier from the ‘other’. The light bulges at the seams of the cage-like structure, alluding to the domination of the internal self over the body.
The Heritage Centre will be open from 6-8pm with a special digital curated display of ‘historic aerial views’ of Geelong.
Imagine being completely surrounded by an environment that takes over every surface - only leaving some glimpses of the outside world to flash through. The viewer is completely surrounded by projection, allowing them to explore and question the surface that is in front of them.

The Celtic Lights exhibition showcases Celtic geometric designs crafted from light.
Intricate knot work is one of the distinctive features of Celtic art, and typically represents themes such as eternity and interconnectedness. Be inspired by illuminated colourful knot work patterns, braided chains, spirals, mythical animals and powerful symbolism.
Naomi Nicholls likes to paint where painting is not meant to go. The brush strokes have escaped the canvas and don’t stay inside the lines. This installation of synthetic polymer paint on layers of adhesive vinyl draws from the lively colours of Geelong and appear to float in air, as if now freed.
A series of votive shrines, progressively installed in empty shop doorways, "Thank You. Please Come Again!" is a devotional work by Geelong’s Retail Cargo Cult. The small shrines, handmade by community members and recalling outsider art, will be illuminated by miniature shopping bags.
Inspired by Geelong After Dark's theme of AIR, Geelong Sculptors inc. proudly present an exhibition, “Birds of a Feather”. It will open for Geelong After Dark (between 6-10 pm) and will continue to run until May 20. Utilizing a pop up gallery space at 69 Ryrie street outside GPAC, the group have responded with sculptures in a variety of mediums.
