Artists: Michael Gray, Rebecca Morton and Amanda Hills

An installation by Alchemy 7 consisting of a beautiful dress made of fine copper wire woven into a honeycomb pattern by Amanda Hills, enveloped in a sound and light environment by Michael Gray, with songstress Rebecca Morton performing soaring operatic arias. Inspired by the blue, alien Diva from the film "5th Element" and by the masked spectacle of the Venice Carnevale, this work aims to transport you to from the ordinary to the strange and extraordinary.

Alchemy 7 is a dynamic collaboration of artists seeking to create innovative and imaginative installations using diverse elements. The goal is to enter different environments with a core idea which becomes elaborated as individual artists respond to the space and time. 

The artists involved in this installation are Michael Gray, Rebecca Morton and Amanda Hills. Amanda has sculpted a wonderful dress out of fine copper wire, woven into a honey comb pattern. Michael has created a sound and light projection environment. Rebecca will be enveloped in this environment, emerge from the dress and sing soaring operatic arias which evoke ancient times and otherworldly places. 

Like the golden, enamelled bird in Yeats' poem 'Sailing To Byzantium', she will be 

...set upon a golden bough to sing
To lords and ladies of Byzantium
Of what is past, or passing, or yet to come

Alchemy 7 were the opening performance for the  2014 Autumn Festival at Lavandula in Hepburn Springs and were part of the two week long exhibition there. In September 2014 they were part of the 'Liberty of the Press' performance for Barking Spider productions at the State Library of Victoria for the Melbourne Fashion Festival. Recently in March 2015 they were the opening and closing performance for the Maldon 3D Art Walk.
