Look out for The Harpy an elaborate interactive roaming art piece wandering through the streets throughout the evening. The Harpy inspired by the red-tailed black cockatoo, an Australian bird found as far south as South-Eastern Victoria and endangered in the region.

‘Wave’ explores their blissful last moments before the wave slides into oblivion. The video depicts the human figure dissolving into the water, just as the wave seeps into the sand.

Geelong After Dark artists will encourage you to journey within the space and seek what lays hidden underneath the surface as you explore the Hubterranean.

Visit our Silent Disco where you can dance away to music through your headphones or enjoy without the headphones hear no music and enjoy the effect the room singing and dancing to nothing. We know not everyone likes the same music, simply flick the channel selector and find the music you want.

Over time Geelong has changed and evolved, growing from the earth into a City with its own suburbs and unique infrastructure. Has this change all been for the better? This artwork aims to explore the changing face of Geelong through exploring its industrial past and blue collar future, and the people who have been affected by this. The drama crew will be performing a Theatre of the Oppressed scenario to explore this concept, while the Guerrilla art crew pose the big questions: How has Geelong changed? Is it for the better? What can be done to affect positive change for the future?

Experience Local Faces, a live community digital portrait activity provided by the Little Projector Company, a creative finger puppet station, Positively Positive Party DJ’s, and a pop-up bar and café.

Based on a literary commission by Bobuq Sayed, hear Mx.Red speak of the future where the world has accepted that gender is on a spectrum. How would a person from our current time negotiate this world? Dive into this sonic installation by downloading the Mx.Red app, available on the Apple and Android stores. The geometry across the venue is the portal to hear their voice.

Back to Back Theatre is turning their studio into a gallery, presenting a large single channel video made with members of the Geelong community.

Founded in 2016 the Geelong Cosplay Society was formed by costume enthusiasts who wanted to use their passion to give back to their local community.

Superheroes, mischief makers And Disney princesses have all come together to give hope and bring joy to the amazing members of the Geelong community. We are always pushing to spread awareness for amazing causes while raising funds for incredible charities.

There are hundreds of dormant volcanoes and other geological features smattered across Victoria's Western District.

Witness the eruption of Geelong’s very own dormant Volcano ‘The Dome’, which occupies the site of the Geelong Library. This is the first eruption for generations and it’s just in time for Geelong After Dark 2018!

Tread Collective explore ideas and possibilities of relevance to space and place. Inviting the community of Geelong to co-produce and collaborate, Tread Collective encourages meditation on the relationship to the items we collect, capital, labour and spectacle within the context of the de-industrialising city.

Components of our installations are found, donated or made in Geelong and are eventually recycled and re-dispersed back into the community. Tread has evolved to include the voices of artists, poets and performers, mechatronic engineers, photographers and graphic designers. Members of the collective have individual practices, which span a broad ecology of creative possibility.

The National Wool Museum brings contemporary artist Kathy Holowko to Geelong After Dark to create a giant immersive spider web, SPIDER-GOAT & THE INSECT ELECTRO, provoked by the spider-web threads produced by goats in the USA. As you go deep into the spider web, unearth fibres created by animals with electro beats accompanying your journey. SPIDER-GOAT & THE INSECT ELECTRO will stay on show at the National Wool Museum until July, where you can continue to interact and even add to the exhibition yourself.

‘Beta Bee’ is an art-installation, which consists on a hexagonal lighted construction inspired by honeycomb geometry.

The project will generate an extended path, inviting the community to walk alongside it. Allowing the audience to reflect on the importance of nature as an inspiration for learning and building towards the future. 

This work explores what interactivity is in a gallery context through observations of viewer engagement of an artwork that combines algorithmic and natural light sources designed to trigger a viewer’s experience.

Geelong After Dark has a theme of ‘earth’ and this work brings together a testing ground building upon existing works currently on show.

The natural world, skies, moons and forests are all submerged in this abstract work to bridge the relationship between Earth and the Night Sky. This projection functions as a telescopic tie that allows for a transportive event between space and Earth.
