Gathering of the City

M~M Artists

Gathering of the City welcomes Canoe and the walkers to the city centre to collide with Geelong After Dark. Choirs and dancers from all parts of the municipality converge as Canoe and it’s entourage of walkers enter Johnstone Park at the end of day one. Walkers are invited to walk a ‘lap of honour’ around the ceremony circle as part of this gathering. Be ready to sing your heart out as the massed choir and dancers create an infectious celebratory atmosphere, a nourishing for tired feet.

The Geelong Lithuanian Dance Group

Geelong's Lithuanian Dance Group will surprise viewers with their lively pop-up performance of "Kubilas" - one of the oldest dances in the Lithuanian repertoire traditionally performed in May with the dancers encircling a symbolic harvest basket in a lively ritual of "earth worship" asking pagan gods for the gift of fertility.

Sound artists and performers Ros Bandt and Vicki Hallett are joined by Jem Savage to premiere their new work Earthscape. It looks from earth outward to science and the cosmos in Dish, and inward in Probe exploring how human actions have consequences. Scope suggests a better balance in the future, watching the environment through sound, video, sculpture and live performance.

Performance Times 7pm, 8pm, 9pm for 23 minutes each

Made in Natimuk artist Mary French and the Portarlington community

The Rotunda at Johnstone Park, will transform into a giant glowing lantern from which images will dance and play to create a world of colour, shadow and light to tell the story of the Celtic Sea God Mannanon! Lantunda is a community arts project in partnership with National Celtic Festival, a Made in Natimuk artist Mary French and the Portarlington community.
