This participatory installation invites you to be present, to be the art in a process of paying attention. You are free to be in the carefully curated space as you wish, engaging with art-based inquiry practices or simply attending to the creative inspiration selectively located around the room. The installation offers art practices including mindful placement of objects, line, taste and texture surveys, and physical intelligence practices most often found in performing arts. The ritual of paying attention in this way creates a space not dissimilar to places of contemplation such as chapels, special places in nature and other paces of worship. Inspiration comes from Dr Natalie McDonagh (PhD: The Art of Creating Self-reflexive Spaces), Chogyam Trungpa (Buddhist Artist and Teacher) and Alan Watts (Philosopher), amongst many others. This installation is suitable for primary and secondary school students and adults.
Facilitated by school teacher and mindfulness, creativity and wellbeing specialist, Jessica Connor Kennedy (jessicaconnorkennedy.com.au, @naturaljess) and artist Amy Kennedy (amykennedyceramics.com, @amykennedyceramics) who practice paying attention as an essential ingredient for true creativity and for living a fulfilling life.
