All three spaces, the gallery space, the installation space and the public art space viewable at street level are conceptually interactive. The viewer is challenged and the work is extended into an experience.
Artist Statement: Karen Mayo is a Public Artist and photographer.
Typically, I use installation, performance and photography to create an ‘experience of art’ for the viewer. “Art as (an) Experience” was a concept consider by theorist John Dewey (1934). My work embraces these concepts, extending them into the domain of public art spaces and making visible his theory of learning about art through the experience of it.
